MATCHA IS A GRUNGE TWIST ON
LATTE MAKEUP

If you’re looking to add an extra shot to your Latte Makeup, consider energizing matcha. Reinterpreting the soft glam makeup look, Matcha Latte introduces green eye shadow for a fresh take on the trend.

Inspired by the natural green tea powder, matcha stands apart from other green eye makeup shades. “It has an earthiness to it that’s quite wearable,” says Terry Barber, M·A·C Creative Director of Makeup Artistry. “I like bright hues that have a bit of a dirtiness to them – almost like they’ve been polluted slightly with brown or grey.”

With trends like swampcore and fairycore dominating beauty and fashion, marshy neutral tones like matcha have never been more popular. “It’s got enough weirdness to it for it to be exciting and still quite complementary to the skin tone and eye colour,” says Barber.

Smudged out with a warm Eye Kohl shade like Costa Riche, the colour takes on a whole new, slightly grunge aesthetic. “When people use colourful eye shadows, they think they have to be clean,” says Barber. “Try blending one shadow on top of the other until you get a gorgeous sludge on the lids. That’s not a negative word in my world of beauty.”

HOW TO GET THE MATCHA LATTE TREND

LOOK 1:  Embrace green eye makeup with earthy tones influenced by your favourite latte.

1. Sweep shade My Kid Could Make That from the Connect In Colour Eye Shadow Palette: Hi-Fi Colour onto lids.
2. Top using Powder Kiss Soft Matte Eye Shadow in Per-Suede Me for an earthy matcha tone.
3. Line upper and lower lash lines using Eye Kohl in Costa Riche.
4. Stack on infinite layers of M·A·CStack Mascara in Chestnut Stack.
5. Smooth on Lustreglass Sheer-Shine Lipstick in Mars To Your Venus.
